Yuzhny airport construction to begin in 2014

The Rostov-on-Don government authorities, the Renova group of companies and the Ministry of Transport have signed a cooperation agreement to build the Yuzhny airport in Aksaysky district near Rostov-on-Don. It was reported previously that the same document was signed in July 2011. The new agreement specifies the completion date must be year-end 2017 due to the fact that Rostov-on-Don was chosen as one of the host cities of the FIFA World Cup in 2018.

The value of the project is RUB 30bn (€684m), 60% of which will be funded by the federal and regional authorities with Renova funding the rest. The construction of the Yuzhny airport complex will begin in 2014. The passenger terminal will cover 100,000 m². The first phase will comprise 50,000 m² and will be built by 2017. The target passenger traffic capacity is expected to be 8 million per year.
