According to PMR's estimates, in 2016 the rate of change in the sector of small contractors was much more favourable than in the case of large companies. As a result, the whole construction market shrank by about 4%, to over PLN 173bn.

PMR estimates that in 2016 the final value of the construction and assembly output for enterprises employing over nine staff arrived at about PLN 79bn (a real decrease by more than 10%). However, the reason for such a disappointing performance is not stagnation throughout the construction sector but the deteriorating situation in the segment of companies employing over nine staff (with its share in the total construction output declining from 54.3% in 2012 to 48.8% in 2015 and 45.4% in 2016).

As a consequence, smaller construction companies (fewer than 10 staff) have been expanding their share, being increasingly employed by large construction companies as subcontractors.
